Overview

The 2020 Nissan Murano does things a little differently in the midsized crossover class. What you'll notice first is that it's uniquely designed with a coupe-like shape marked by swooping contours. But the bonus is that the shape is not merely for aesthetics: it also helps the Murano get an EPA-estimated 20 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway. And with its four-wheel independent suspension and power steering that adapts its sensitivity to the vehicle's speed, your daily driving will be that much more pleasurable.

The '20 Murano is well built, generously equipped, and spacious, plus it has an especially user-friendly infotainment system. It comes in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum, with each getting a 3.5-liter V6 engine that boasts 260 horsepower and 240 pounds-feet of torque. This strong engine is mated to the Nissan Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT); front wheel-drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available across the board. For the latest model year, the advanced driver aids through Nissan Safety Shield 360 under the Nissan Intelligent Mobility umbrella are now standard on the SV trim and above, and those same features are now optional for the base S.

Comfort and Convenience

The S comes with LED headlights and taillights, power side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-seat climate vents, Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button ignition, and 60/40-split fold-down rear seatbacks. Stepping up to the SV will provide black roof rails, heated exterior mirrors, remote engine start with intelligent climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift handle. Optional for this trim are LED fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and faux-leather upholstery.

With the SL, those optional features, except for the sunroof, are standard, but genuine leather replaces the faux. This trim also gets silver roof rails, a motion-activated liftgate, ambient interior lighting, heated rear seats, memory functions for the driver's seat and side mirrors, and a heated steering wheel. On the range-topping Platinum, the sunroof is standard, along with a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with memory, upgraded semi-aniline leather seating with diamond-quilted inserts, a smooth-leather steering wheel, and heated and cooled front seats.

Intelligent Driver Aids

The '20 Murano includes Nissan's Safety Shield 360 for the first time on the SV, making that driver-assist technology standard on all but the base trim. This active-safety bundle includes intelligent cruise control, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane intervention, reverse automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and intelligent driver alertness monitor. The S delivers the intelligent driver alertness feature and automatic emergency braking without pedestrian detection as standard. Otherwise, all of those amenities, except for intelligent cruise control, are optional.

Technology

The S and SV receive a rearview camera, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition function, Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming audio, an auxiliary input jack, two USB ports and two USB-C ports, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The SL and Platinum both include an around-view monitor, integrated navigation, a premium 11-speaker Bose audio system with dual subwoofers, and HD radio.
