The 2019 Nissan Frontier has plenty to brag about. Not only is it America's most affordable pickup, but it's been ranked by J.D. Power as the mid-sized pickup with the highest initial quality for the past three years. This mid-sized pickup comes with two options each for bed length, cab size, transmission, and engine. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard with the base 152 hp four-cylinder engine. The available 261 hp V6 is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The top trim comes with fog lights, skid plates, leather seats, and Bilstein off-road shock absorbers.

The available trims for the King Cab version are the S, SV 4-Cylinder, SV V6, Desert Runner, and PRO-4X. The larger Crew Cab offers slightly different trims: S, SV V6, Desert Runner, SL, PRO-4X, and Midnight Edition. The Midnight Edition, which debuted last model year, features black accents such as the wheels, mirrors, grille, step rails, and door handles. There are standard and long-bed versions of the Crew Cab trims. The available amenities on Frontiers include heated front seats (with power functions for the driver's side), leather-trimmed seating, and a factory-installed bed liner.

Safety and Technology

Nissan Intelligent Mobility consists of crucial safety technologies to keep the Frontier on the road with safe occupants. It includes traction control, vehicle dynamic control, a full suite of air bags, crumple zones, side-impact beams, ABS and electronic brake force distribution, and more. A rear-view camera comes standard for safe backing, and the tire pressure monitoring system alerts the driver when any tire is improperly inflated.

Bluetooth technology comes standard, as does the voice recognition-capable NissanConnect system, which combines music, travel information, smartphone functions, and social media in one central hub with a 7-inch touchscreen. Nissan Navigation is available to make it a complete package.

The Frontier leads its class in maximum ground clearance and can tow up to 6,710 pounds when fully equipped; the payload capacity is as much as 1,460 lb., depending on the drivetrain/trim. A rugged polyethylene bed liner is available (standard on some trims) to protect the pickup bed from scratches and dings and adds non-slip surfacing to limit shifting of cargo. Buyers can also add a non-sliding tool box and a fixed bed extender; there's even a dealer-installed bed tent that converts the cargo bed into sleeping space for camping.
