What's new for the 2019 Nissan Altima

Meet Nissan's first AWD sedan

Are you in the market for a midsized sedan? The 2019 Nissan Altima sails past the competition - Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Camry - into a league of its own. With comfortable seating for five, the all-new Altima doesn't sacrifice form for function.

The biggest change in the 2019 model is availability of all-wheel drive - extremely uncommon in this vehicle class. In fact, the 2019 Altima is Nissan's first sedan with Intelligent All Wheel Drive, and it's not available on competitors like Camry, Accord, or Sonata.

The all-new Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system can send 100% of engine power to the front wheels, or split it between the front and rear wheels. This system will give your Altima all-weather performance, so you can drive confidently in New England snow, rain, or slush. This AWD system will be available on all five trims along with a 2.5L engine that puts out 188 HP - an increase from last year's 179. The engine will have reduced noise, vibration, and harshness for a smoother, quieter ride. The 2019 Altima is expected to hit an impressive EPA-rated 40 MPG on highway.

The chassis will feature a redesigned suspension with monotube rear dampers, a new electrically-assisted power-steering unit, and 19-inch wheels, available for the first time as an option on SR and Platinum.

The design of the 2019 Altima is more linear than before, with a floating-roof design inspired by the Maxima. An oversized front grill makes the 2019 model bolder than ever, as does a new selection of exterior colors, including Scarlet Ember and Sunset Drift. Inside, the cabin is airier and sleeker than ever, and outside, the wheelbase is longer, wider, and lower than the 2018.

You'll get Bluetooth, and Google Assistant/Siri Eyes Free voice-recognition services, as well as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. You can remote lock or unlock the car and start or stop the engine with Android Wear and Apple Watch compatibility. All trims have a 7-inch screen in the instrument cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen on the dashboard. The 2019 Altima will be available with Nissan's popular ProPilot Assist, part of Nissan's Intelligent Mobility. This feature offers enhanced adaptive cruise control and steering assist. Rear automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and traffic-sign recognition are standard on all models except the base S.

Other cosmetic features available will be "NASA-inspired" Zero Gravity seats, USB and Type-C ports, and a Bose Premium Audio System.
